Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Poverty Alleviation M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday, said that the Centre will be launching two major initiatives in April.
While the first scheme is under the New Urban Rejuvenation Mission that assures to provide all the basic amenities in around 500 cities with one lakh and more population, the second one is the most popularized Smart City development mission. Smart Cities would be developed in terms of the scope, reach, impact and the implications.
Mr. Naidu stated that the centre is intended to focus on the basic amenities and infrastructure, apart from providing efficient governance and service systems under the smart city plan.
The Union Minister has participated in the inaugural event of Centre for Smart Cities at Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Sri City. He said that the Centre is committed to provide a better standard of living to the people, and added that around 500 million people would be added to the existing urban populations by the year 2045.
The new Centre for Smart Cities at Sri City will commence a pilot project on the Smart Water Meters, Smart Electric Meters, Smart Grid and Security, Public Transport Monitoring, Smart Access and Vehicle Safety, says Naidu.
