Jaipur city, which attracts 40 million tourists every year has collaborated with Cisco to deploy the first phase of its Smart + Connected City vision at Central Park which is spread across 25 hectares and located in the heart of the city.
Aimed at meeting the aspirations of its 35 lakh citizens and millions of tourists that throng the city, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is piloting four elements of a Smart + Connected City beginning with free Wifi for Internet access, Interactive Kiosks for citizen services, Intelligent video cameras with analytics for security/surveillance and Environmental sensors to monitor, pollution, temperature, humidity etc.
At the launch, Shikhar Agarwal, Commissioner of Jaipur Development Authority told Business Line that a masterplan for the Smart + Connected City vision is being put together and will be ready in 2-3months. "Jaipur is one of the most historic and culturally rich cities in the country and is close to 300 years old. This initiative is the amalgamation where the old meets the the new that will not only improve the lives of citizens but showcase Jaipur as a smart city."
He said, they chose Cisco for this transformative project as the networking giant brings experience and expertise through its numerous global smart city projects.
JDA has embarked on an ambitious city-wide brownfield smart + connected city project and has selected 8 zones to deploy and pilot 4 applications of smart cities in tourist locations,metro stations, bus stands, hospitals, parks and government hospitals, said Purushottam Kaushik, MD, Sales Growth Verticals, Cisco India & SAARC. He said, Cisco worldwide has 48 smart city applications, many of which are being customised and deployed in India on Cisco's city infrastructure and management platform with the help of 3,000 partners, in smart city projects across India.
Asked about the total investment outlay for Jaipur smart city project, Shri Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing said " Once the smart city masterplan is done, we will arrive at the investment outlay. Meanwhile, we have plans to make Udaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer smart cities too."
