Two smart cities to be developed in Haryana

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday announced that the state government will develop two smart cities in Haryana if they fulfil the set parameters.

"On the basis of population, two smart cities will be developed in Haryana for which parameters have been set and a survey will be conducted in this regard by July 21," Khattar said in Rohtak.

He said the cities, which fulfil the set parameters, will be kept in the category for developing them into smart cities. Some other cities, which also fulfil the parameters by next year, can enter the category of becoming smart cities.

For developing smart cities, facilities like infrastructure, education, medical facility, electricity, water and participation of people would be checked, he said.

The CM said for the first time, the citizens can contribute in deciding the development approach towards their cities.

Khattar said apart from smart city, the Centre has also initiated Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Awas Yojana where 500 cities throughout India will be developed under AMRUT and a target has been set to construct two crore houses for all in urban areas by next seven years under Awas Yojana.
