Itron recently announced that it has signed contracts with Stadtnetze Neustadt and Stadtwerke Garbsen, energy providers to 25,000 and 35,000 customers, respectively, in Lower Saxony, Germany. Both utilities will utilize Itron Total Services to monitor renewable generation in compliance with Germanys Renewable Energy Act. Itron Total Services takes Itrons existing industry-leading capabilities in metering, communications, data management, analysis and professional services, and packages them together in a simplified, subscription-based structure.
Itron will help the utilities monitor and manage the integration of renewable energy into the electric grid, ensuring grid reliability. With two-way communication capabilities and detailed usage data, the utilities will have greater visibility into their renewable energy generation. Itron will provide the ongoing operations of the systems, including daily management and maintenance of all Itron smart meters, back-office data collection software and network communications infrastructure.
As we move to smart grid technology in Germany, utilizing Itron Total Services will help ease this transition. We can take advantage of Itrons expertise to manage and maintain day-to-day operations, so we can focus on gaining more business value out of the smart grid solution, said Rolf Haack at Stadtnetze Neustadt. We look forward to working with Itron to ensure the reliable integration of renewables into our electric grid with smart grid technology.
Working with Itron, we will be able to better control our renewable generation facilities in order to react to critical incidents in the grid and avoid local blackouts. This will help us ensure reliable service for our customers, said Eckhard Pttker, Technischer Leiter at Stadtwerke Garbsen. Using Itrons solution as a service, we can simplify and streamline our deployment of smart grid technology in order to realize these benefits faster.
We are pleased to expand our Itron Total Services offering to Europe with Stadtnetze Neustadt and Stadtwerke Garbsen. These utilities will greatly benefit from our solution as a service, accelerating the benefits of the smart grid to quickly meet their business needs for renewable integration, said Bruce Douglas, Itron senior vice president and general manager of software and services. Itron is committed to helping our customers quickly and easily meet their business objectives, all with the goal of helping create a more resourceful world.
