Pune Municipal Corporation ( P M C ) has signed Memorandum of Understanding with India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) on th 15 November, 2015 to assist PMC and Maharashtra State Electricit y Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) for implementation of smart grid technologies in Pune Smart City Project area. Pune is a city in Maharashtra which is among the 98 smart cities selected under the Smart Cities Mission by Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India in September 2015. MoUD has thrown a Smart City Challenge program amongst the 98 cities to select the 20 front runners in the first phase which will be announced on 26th January 2016. PMC is gearing up for this competition and preparing the Smart City Plan by closely studying all stakeholders’ expectations. Selection of a city under the Smart City Challenge will be a turning point for the development of that city. PMC has embarked on a plan for implementation of smart grid project in Pune city. To ensure sustainable supply of electricity and energy security, the efficient management of the electricity distribution network through use of intelligent devices that can monitor and control power flows in real time has become necessary and Smart Grid Technologies will play vital role in achieving this in Pune Smart City. This Smart Grid Project will lead to integrate all utility services on one platform to create the monitoring and control of all domains like gas, water, sewerage, surveillance cameras, transportation, etc. from single interface. ISGF and PMC has entered into an MoU under which ISGF will assist PMC and Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) to plan and implement smart grid solutions in Pune Smart City. PMC will allow ISGF to conduct smart city workshops/ Conferences/ Conclaves as and when required to promote Pune as an Investment destination.
