India : Smart city project: US team visits port

US expert on clean energy Karl R. Rabago and public affairs officer at the US Embassy, Gabriel Hons-Oliver on Monday met Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T. Krishna Babu and held discussions with him on building smart cities through educational linkages with focus on sharing the best practices in smart city policy, design and administration in the country.

Mr. Krishna Babu elaborated on the developmental activities being taken up by the port, especially the operation of 10 MW solar energy plant which is the first of its kind among all major ports on sustainable energy and the benefits of electrification and doubling of Rayagada-Vizianagaram line to the port.

The team showed keen interest on the steps being taken for harnessing sustainable energy and commended the Chairman for the efforts.

They also enquired about the cargo throughput achieved and also investment for the smart city project in Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Rabago made a field visit to solar power plant of the port near the airport and industrial areas.

He also visited GITAM University.
