HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Hawaiian Electric Co. is seeking out land to expand renewable energy operations across the state.
The company issued a request for information this week asking homeowners about properties that would be available for utility-scale renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind farms, The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported
Utility companies Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and the Hawaii Electric Light Co. are looking to increase the number of clean energy projects on the islands of Hawaii, Oahu, Maui, Molokai and Lanai.
The effort is part of the state's goal to generate 100 percent renewable energy by 2045.
In order to reach that goal, Hawaiian Electric spokesman Darren Pai said "one of the most important things to consider is land that's going to be available."
