The government of the state of Tripura and Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) have signed an agreement for energy efficient illuminating system on the streets in the towns of the state. The agreement requires the replacement of all the ordinary street lightings with LED lights, which would enable the electricity board of the state to reduce the monthly electricity bills enormously. The program has already been implemented by EESL in the capital Agartala, where all the conventional bulbs of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) have been replaced by LED lights. The cost of the whole project is ₹180 million (~$2.64 million). As per the agreement between AMC and EESL, EESL will take back its invested capital from the savings of electric bill annually for next five years and during this period the operations and maintenance will be taken care of by EESL administration.
