28 October 2017, New Delhi, India. There has been an enormous and a rapid increase in the usage of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) in India with the growing awareness and creation of SMARTER CITIES + SMARTER VILLAGES and DIGITAL INDIA initiatives of the Government of India Programs for the developmental purposes.

With the increasing spread of ICT, usage of disruptive and specialized technologies such as machine-to-machine (m2m) and internet-of-things (iot) is finding more attention from multiple user segments. Information dissemination about the latest technology advancements and developments, possible applications and usages, and integration with allied technologies has been playing a very significant role towards promoting and propagating overall development of the society at large.

Founded in the year 2014 ‘India m2m + iot Forum 2018’ is the 5th Annual National Forum on machine-to-machine (m2m) and internet of things (iot) from the larger umbrella of the Information Communications Technologies (ICT), and has become the signature forum in marketing ‘Brand Of India’ to the entire ICT stakeholders across the world.

The forum aims at enriching the m2m and iot ecosystem by demonstrating the applications and usability of disruptive and specialized technologies such as m2m and iot in making Smarter Cities and Smarter Villages in India over 2 days via the ‘4th India Smart Cities Forum 2018’ and the ‘4th India Smart Villages Forum 2018’.

Day 1, Tuesday, 30 January 2018 – ‘4th edition India Smart Cities Forum’

With specially organized session on ‘SMART Cities – JOURNEY so far’, the participants will witness the Panel and Speakers from the ECOSYSTEM discussing and deliberating upon the Smart Cities PROGRESSES thus far, and the ‘Key Smart City Announcements by the Central and State Governments and Latest Updates’ from the time the Smart Cities Projects have been announced since the present government took offices in 2014.

The forum will also be hosting a dedicated ‘Smart Cities CEO’s + Industry Round Table’ that will include CEO’s of the Smart City Projects that have very successfully kicked-off and are delivering from the front. This Round Table Session will include the Industry Partners and Players who are making the most ambitious project of the Government of India’s Smart Cities vision a SUCCESS that have been envisaged to ensure proliferation of technologies and to attract large scale, long term capital investments in to India’s Smart Cities sector while protecting consumer interest. An insight into policy priorities over the next years will also remain the focus. 


Highlighting the importance and need of such a forum, Dr Ramnath Sonawane, CEO, Nagpur Smart City, said, The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, has outlined certain visions and objectives of Smart Cities. ICT (m2m and iot) plays a crucial role in each of these. There is a need of consensus among city administration, consulting companies, service companies and technology companies on what ICT  (m2m + iot) components are necessary and how cities should approach this agenda. ‘4th India Smart Cites Forum 2018’ which is being hosted by ‘India m2m + iot Forum 2018’, will provide an ideal platform by bringing in the relevant stakeholders from both the public as well as private sectors to enable significant discussions for the use of m2m and iot technologies in realising the smart city vision for India.”

Day 2, Wednesday, 31 January 2018 – ‘4th edition India Smart Villages Forum’

‘RE-INVENTING THE VILLAGES OF INDIA – Building Scalable Smart Villages in India’ – This SPECIALIZED SESSION will bring together the stakeholders from the ECOSYSTEM addressing the basics of NEEDS of any village encompassing the vision for a well connected SMART VILLAGE highlighting KEY SECTORS that will contribute towards BUILDING SCALABLE and SUSTAINABLE SMART VILLAGEs in INDIA.

“Since we are building a C2C partnership related to the use of Internet of Things across highly relevant verticals such as smart cities, smart villages and smart agriculture, it is very appropriate to work closely together with ‘India m2m + iot Forum’ to progress this important endeavor through FI-MEDIA project.

‘India m2m + iot Forum’s’ exemplary work in bringing together all of the relevant stakeholders over the last years in India in connection with similar initiatives in the European IoT research and innovation and industry communities, for example the EU’s ‘IoT Forum’, will provide excellent scope for significant and sustainable mutual benefits for EU and India”, said Mr James Clarke, EU Strategic Liaison Manager at the Telecommunications Software and Systems Group of Waterford Institute of Technology in Ireland and Project Coordinator of the FI-Media project, which is funded by the European Union, to facilitate the building of cluster to cluster (C2C) partnerships between the EU and India clusters of research and industry stakeholders related to Future Internet and Digital Media topics.

The 5th edition of India m2m + iot Forum 2018 is scheduled to be held on 30 – 31 January 2018, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India, and is being jointly organized by the Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (DMS, IIT Delhi), FI Media (Future Internet and Electronic Media) a project funded by European Union, and m2m2iotpaper.

FI Media

FI-MEDIA is a clustering partnership and mobility project funded by the Delegation of the European Union to India. The 4 year project started on the 1st of December, 2014 and is coordinated by Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), Ireland, and has two India partners, IIT Delhi and Beyond Evolution Tech Solutions Private Ltd, Gurgaon. FI-MEDIA also has the strong support of the large scale European Technology/Industry driven platforms e.g. EU’s NEM Technology Platform and Confederation of Indian Industry - CII. The core objective of FI-MEDIA is facilitating the building of Cluster to Cluster (C2C) partnerships in areas such as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies with a C2C designed to enhance the cooperation of research and innovation (R&I) and industry cooperation between EU and India. The approach to achieve this objective is to identify the ICT topics of common interest, advise and help of the available R&I / industry clusters in both countries in the selection of right topics, enabling the building facilitation of sustainable C2C partnerships between the EU and India clusters. The project has successfully facilitated two C2C partnerships on Smart Villages and bringing the EU’s FIWARE platform to India and is now progressing with a new C2C partnership related to M2M and IoT in a number of possible areas e.g. Smart Agriculture, Smart Dairy Farming, Smart Energy Management, with a view to synchronising these C2Cs with suitable Smart Village and Smart Cities programme in both the EU and India.
