A planned €1 billion electricity cable linking Ireland and France is to be fast-tracked and given EU funding as part of a push to improve the bloc’s electricity supply.
The Celtic Interconnector, a 700-megawatt undersea cable, is one of 173 priority energy infrastructure projects identified by the EU to improve supply across member states. A full list of the projects will be published today.
The projects will be entitled to accelerated planning permission as well as EU funding. The list includes twice as many electricity as gas projects, an EU source said.
