India : Smart City, AMRUT projects get ₹312 cr.

Allocation for smart city, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, beach front development and prevention of beach erosion and improvement of the water supply in northwest part of the city are among the allocations made for GVMC in the State Budget.

For the smart city development, another ₹200 crore has been earmarked in 2018-19 budget proposals. In 2015-16 and 2016-17, ₹400 crore had already been allocated.

Under AMRUT, the ₹112 crore worth works proposed by GVMC will get funds, it was learnt. They include replacement of pipelines, new house service connections and sewerage connections. Under the scheme, 33 % of the cost is footed by the Central Government and 20 % by the State. The water project in the north-west part of GVMC will also receive funds under the externally-aided projects, say sources. Comprising distribution network, reduction of non-revenue water and 24x7 water supply, it is funded by ADB a part of the Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor. The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department gave its nod for the ₹388.66 crore work. It will be funded 90 % by the Centre and the remaining will be borne by the State.

The World Bank-funded beachfront development (₹ 240 crore) and prevention of erosion (₹150 crore) are also in finalisation of DPRs, it is learnt.
