Own-brand electric machinery and electric home-use appliance maker Tatung is showcasing a smart micro-grid model at the 2018 Smart City Summit & Expo in Taipei March 27-30.
The smart micro-grid model integrates PV power-generating facilities, storage systems, smart meters, mobile step-up transformers, distributed power grids, and a cloud-based smart energy management system.
Smart micro-grids are useful in remote areas and isolated islands when central power supply is disrupted due to disasters or accidents. Tatung established a smart micro-grid in a village in the mountains of northern Taiwan, and the village could maintain emergency power supply to last out disruption to central power supply by typhoons.
The in-house-developed cloud-based smart energy management system can real-time monitor power generation, power load and manage appropriation of generated or stored electricity to reach optimal power supply.
Tatung has set up over 500 rooftop PV systems, ground-mounted and floating PV power stations in Taiwan. Tatung has won an innovative application award at the 2018 Smart City Summit & Expo, for completing in early 2018 a smart micro-grid mainly consisting of a PV power station of 400KWp and a 300kWh power storage system on a remote island.
