Hyderabad: The power transmission and distribution system in the State is fully geared up to meet loads up to 11,000 MW in the coming season, D Prabhakar Rao, CMD of TSGENCO and TSTRANSCO said on Thursday.
Rao said the State power grid had met a peak demand of 10,284 MW on March 8, 2018, which is an all-time high in the history of Telangana Power sector. As part of its efforts to make the State self-sufficient in power, TSGENCO had commenced projects of 5880 MW capacity at Manuguru (4×270 MW), Kothagudem (1×800 MW) and Dameracherla (5×800 MW) with an investment of Rs 37,938 crore. The works are going on at a brisk pace.
Stating that the State government had spent Rs 12,136 crore towards strengthening of transmission and distribution system, Rao said Telangana had also taken the major initiative of promoting green power through the proclamation of “Telangana State Solar Policy – 2015”, which has been lauded as the best in the country.
Telangana power utilities implemented a unique generation model for adding solar capacity, which was being adopted by other States also. The CMD was speaking after paying floral tributes to former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 111th birth anniversary at Vidyut Soudha.
Recalling that solar power capacity at the time of the State formation was a mere 30 MW, he says now it has the highest installed solar capacity of 3,220 MW and stands number one in the county. “Discharging the assigned duties by extending value-added services to electricity consumers is also a way to express our love and solidarity for the country,” he said.
He appealed to employees to rededicate for the betterment of power sector by following strict discipline to take the sector to new heights with consumer satisfaction as the ultimate goal.
