The Oil & Gas sector, with its major forward and backward linkages, is a key driver of India's economic growth. With conventional hydrocarbon resources of a whopping 12 billion tonnes of oil and gas equivalent in India, the industry is at the forefront of creating economic prosperity, and business and employment opportunities. The demand for natural gas, specifically, is healthy and booming at 63 billion cubic meter (bcm) annually. Additionally, with rising investor interest in the potential of gas as a fuel to ramp up the country's energy transition, the time is ripe for the nation to realize the goal of developing a thriving and world class gas-based economy and boosting the share of the fuel in the energy basket to 15 per cent in the near future from the current 6 per cent. That ambition is in line with India's larger and ambitious commitments on the environment and climate change front.
